The aim of the new construction of the sample showroom and the renovation of the buildings was to revitalize the area, to continue, and in the architecture of the new building, to connect with the character of the industrial architecture from the turn of the century in this area of Olomouc. By incorporating contemporary requirements for sales, storage, and facilities, it will enable the subsidiary of Dřevo Trust - prodej, a.s. to support both current and future development.
The area aims to provide a wide selection of materials and goods for both professional carpenters and joiners, as well as for small craftsmen and end customers. It is located in a strategic position between Kaštanová and Jeremenkova streets, opposite the main train station's rail yard. This area is characterized by high-quality brick buildings from the turn of the 19th century, which contributes to the historical context of the place. However, the broad avenue with mature trees lacked an urban concept and was essentially a "bypass."
To improve this situation, it was necessary to revitalize the area and design an initiative building. In a location that was previously made up solely of utilitarian halls, a house with a clear shape was created to serve as a landmark on the route between the Main Train Station and the Senimo department store. The new sample building became the only new construction in the area, which previously lacked a clear main building.
The new structure respects the street line of the residential buildings and maintains the scale of the wide avenue. The concept of the building is based on the use of today’s typical materials and construction solutions for halls, namely a steel structure clad with PUR panels, and on the use of clear expressive means, meaning the architecture consists of a strong shape, ample lighting, and attention to detail. The square floor plan reflects symmetry in all directions. The architecture is characterized by a strong form, lighting, and emphasis on detail. There is an effort for a perfect floor plan in the organically grown area along the siding. A single facade detail is repeated along the entire building, with all facades being the same. An engineering approach is evident.
The building has a shiny smooth color that contrasts with the original halls made of facing brick, and its dark appearance is accentuated by fir green. The house is designed to become a prominent element in the area, not only through its panel construction but also through a celebratory form achieved by undercutting the facade.
The ground floor of the building is glazed, allowing views of the slender steel columns on which the solid mass rests, featuring a ribbon window intended for administrative purposes. The interior of the showroom is neutral and bright, serving as a backdrop for the displayed goods, while large open-plan offices for 60 employees are situated on the upper floor. Natural light penetrates the interior through bands of windows and skylights, creating a pleasant working environment.
The newly constructed showroom, covering an area of 500 m², was designed to connect with the original halls and overall revitalize the area. All existing halls were renovated, the handling areas reinforced, and utilities modernized. Total investments in the project are around 25 million CZK.
