The football grandstand is a typology that lies at the intersection of public architecture and civil engineering. Its primary function—a large-span roof covering the spectator area—must also possess aesthetic quality. With this awareness of both purpose and necessary beauty, we approached the design, from the overall concept down to the smallest detail.
The subject of this architectural study is the design of a new grandstand and facilities for the football stadium in Humpolec, replacing the existing building, which is no longer sufficient in terms of capacity or technical condition. The new grandstand will be located between two pitches—one with natural grass and one with artificial turf—and will serve both sides. Its primary orientation is toward the main grass pitch with concrete terraces. The structure will be larger to meet FAČR standards and will include eight locker rooms, facilities for players, referees, and staff, technical areas, a restaurant, clubroom, skybox, gym, and more. Spectator and player entrances will be separated, and the benches will be covered by the grandstand’s overhang.
The architectural design is modest, combining exposed concrete with a lightweight steel roof structure. The restaurant and clubroom in the northern section will have a distinct appearance and a cantilevered terrace with views. The grandstand will seat approximately 250 spectators facing the main pitch and 120 facing the training pitch. The building will be connected to existing utility networks, and rainwater will be collected and reused for irrigation. The surrounding area will be upgraded with new paved paths, a retaining wall, green spaces, and a children’s playground. The design emphasizes functionality, simplicity, and architectural quality appropriate for a public sports facility.
